Karthik and Devikha finished their delicious dinner at a restaurant near beach road,Pondicherry.The time was 10pm.It was a Saturday night and was raining heavily outside.The Bearer gave them the bill and it was Rs.364.
Devikha summed up the digits and said “Karthik,See the sum,Its 3+6+4=13,13 Is an unlucky number,Right?”
Devikha has this useless habit of summing up the digits wherever she sees a number. She often boasts that Ramanujam was from her home town, Kumbakonam and he studied in the same school as hers. Sigh. Though Karthik did not like her comment,he smiled and gave his credit card to the bearer.
Bearer:Sorry Sir,The machine is not working,Cash please,sir.
Karthik:Oh,No.I Don’t have cash,I have other bank card also,can you use that?
Bearer:No Sir,Some problem in the network cables sir.
Karthik:Oh. Devikha, Do you have money,Swiping machine is not working,it seems.
Devikha:No Karthik.I didn’t bring the purse.
Karthik: (Frowns and thinks inside)I should not have asked you that question.
Bearer: There is an ATM centre in next street sir,You can go there and collect the cash.We will wait and take care of Madam.
Karthik: (Confused and worried) Devika,Can you wait for fifteen minutes?I will be back.
Devikha:Hmmm..Ok dear. But come soon.
Karthik and Devika work for the same company.Both are software Engineers and they love each other. They are going to get married in a couple of months time.
They came to Pondicherry to meet Karthik’s parents who live there. Their plan was to finish the dinner before 8.30 pm and return home.But plan was getting delayed because of the rain.
The restaurant was filled by some five or six people and he was worried to leave Devikha alone. But since there was no option left,he came outside.Still,It was raining heavily. While stepping out,He turned back and Devika was not at their table.Only her bag and mobile was there. On seeing this,he was worried for a second and then consoled himself by assuming that she should have gone to washroom. He steppped out.

He found an ATM centre and unfortunately a long queue was there. He thought of calling to her mobile and informing about the lateness.He tried calling to her mobile .Her phone was ringing and ringing.
The call got dropped with ‘No answer’. Adrenalin secretion was at its max for him. He was sweating in that chill weather. He was calling to her mobile again and again but there was no answer.It took almost twenty minutes for Karthik to use the ATM.He sent an sms mean while with content “Are you safe?” but the messge did not get delivered.
He collected the cash and started running towards the restaurant. He tried calling her again,and to his surprise a male voice picked up the call and the call got dropped in between. He rushed to the restaurant and went to their table. Karthik was totally wet. More shock was waiting for Him.Devikha’s bag and mobile was also missing

Karthik tried calling to her mobile and this time he was getting “Network Busy” Error. And he was calling to her number continously for five minuted but still the same error was appearing. Karthik was almost in tears.Suddenly a hand touched his shoulders. Karthik was shocked to see Devikha standing there puzzled.
Karthik almost shouted at her.
Karthik:What happened to you? Where is your mobile?I tried calling your mobile ‘n’ number of times.
Devikha: Is it?But I didn’t get any call,See my phone is in full network signal.
She was right. The signal was proper.
Karthik:Where were you when I left the restaurant?
Devikha:I went to take water from the next table,the moment you left the table.
Karthik: From where are you coming now?
Devikha: Come on,I am coming from wash Basin room ,Are you ok,Dear?
Karthik:I called you while coming back from ATM centre and a male voice picked up and it got dropped in between.
Devikha:Oh.But I didn’t get any call dear. That should be a wrong connection,I guess. IT used to happen often in this network
Karthik:I was so worried Devikha.i couldn’t reach you in mobile.i was so horrified. Thank god.You are ok
Devikha:Don’t worry da.
Karthik:Which Mobile network are you using?
Devikha: XYZ netowrk
Karthik:Oh,Yes.i have seen our office bulletin board getting flooded with the complaints about their poor service.Our first job tomorrow is to change the network.
Devikha:That is for tomorrow.Call your mother and inform her that We got held up in the restaurant. A beep,beep sound was coming from devikha’s mobile.An sms alert and she opened to see Karthik’s sms “Are you safe?”. Karthik hugged her in relief,and she replied for the sms “No,Not Now ;-) “ and winks towards him. He realises the position and move back.
